What’s New for Men’s Footwear next season

We recently revealed what was in store on the womenswear front for next season. With regards to menswear, we’ve gone a step further. We caught up with Kurt Geiger’s Head of Men’s Buying and Design Shaun Donnelly, who gave us a more in-depth insight into the new collection, explaining the key styles due to drop and detailing his personal favourites. So, without further ado, bring on AW17 in all its masculine glory…

Boot Loot

If you haven’t yet invested in a pair of Chelsea boots, now’s the time to do so. Shaun named them as one of his wardrobe essentials; “every English man needs a decent boot in his wardrobe. It can be worn with anything and never goes out of style.” Chelsea boots instantly smarten any off-duty look. Perfect if you’re someone who dreads the thought of wearing anything other than jeans and a t-shirt. And there are so many great styles to choose from. Take KG’s Baxter, available in tan, black and brown, or if you’re after a lighter shade, try the Syd style in taupe. If you really want to get ahead of the fash pack, sport these with a slightly too-short trouser.

Off-Duty Delights

We’d all be lost without a trusty pair of trainers, and our athleisure round up for next season is looking p-r-e-t-t-y good if we do say so ourselves. Shaun was asking for trainers for Christmas over toys, aged nine, and readily admits to having an unhealthy addiction to buying them in stacks, so this guy really knows his stuff. Do you love a box fresh white number? You just wait until you see the Malone sneakers. They’re a tad more stylised than your old Nike’s. If you were ever after a casual shoe to pair with a suit – these are the answer. Colour blocking is going to be a big trend for AW17 and we’ve made this one super easy for you. The Charlie and Lamont styles both discreetly incorporate next season’s key colours, and are the perfect addition to your weekend wardrobe. Shaun’s favourite? The Alvarez sneaker in tan suede, which was based on a 70’s vintage football sneaker he found in a flea market in L.A. and (cue the cheers) these beauties will only improve with wear.

The New Formal

Formal has gone a bit more grown-up for next season. Forget your battered black lace-ups you bought forever ago and consider investing in something a bit smarter. Shaun favours a classic toe cap oxford, “the quintessential British formal shoe.” The Austin and Alfie styles pay tribute to this city boy favourite, which Shaun says are “perfect if you need to look like you’ve made an effort.” Those partial to something jazzier can opt for a patent number. The Dermot will seamlessly compliment a well-fitting suit. And we’re kind of jealous that there isn’t a women’s version of the Cerjay! If shiny shoes aren’t your thing, fear not. You can’t get more classic that the Angus lace up, which will do you well for the office too. And if you can’t be bothered with laces, opt for KG’s Gingers loafers. Black is suitable for formal attire but it wouldn’t hurt to pick up a pair in dreamy brown suede either… just saying.
